ICE Certification FAQ

1) How much does certification cost?

To submit an application for certification costs $40. In the event that the applicant does not receive certification on the first try there are no refunds, but successive applications are free. Payment can be submitted by check or with credit card through our online payment processor, AuctionPay.

2) I studied in a country that doesn’t use the US credit/hour system. Is it possible to get equivalent points for these courses?

Yes, you may submit courses for what you feel are equivalent numbers of points for consideration by the Committee.

3) What if I want to submit a project for points that isn’t listed as an option?

Submit a description of the project or activity to the Certification Committee listing the points you think should be awarded based on comparison with other projects on the approved list and approximate hours spent completing the project.

4) Can I list a project for which I would like to receive partial points? (i.e. 1 pt for 3 months of apprenticeship on a national instrument).

Yes, all proposals for points will be considered, down to 1/2 of a point.

5) If I gain certification, will my name be published on the web or in ICE publications?

ICE, like many organizations involving missionaries, is very security conscious. For this reason we will list for publication only those who give their permission. All correspondence by applicants with the Certification Committee will be strictly confidential.

6) If I apply but fall short of having the necessary points, how soon can I re-apply?

The Certification Committee will give you a full review of where you fall short, and how many points are still needed. You are welcome to re-apply when those requirements are met.

7) Once I am certified, what are the requirements for renewals?

Two renewals are required before certification becomes permanent. Renewals can be submitted from one to five years apart and will cost $5 each. A renewal will be awarded to each applicant who gains five additional points from each of the required categories.

8) What happens when my application has been approved?

You will receive an email of notification when your application is approved. A certificate will follow in the mail to the address of your choosing. For those members without security issues, a press-release announcing your certification can be issued by ICE to the publications and/or organizations of your choice.
