Background to the Song
The recording of this traditional style song was a historic moment: one of the few Christian songs utilizing various vocal techniques of Mongolia. One technique utilizes “throat singing,” popular in the regions surrounding Mongolia. By shaping the lips in various formations the vocal cavity is changed. In this way, throat singers create secondary tones at higher or lower pitches (called overtones). Thus, one singer actually sings more than one pitch. The simple accompaniment includes a local stringed instrument plucking just two notes. The lead singer is a pastor, and his melody is accompanied by the “morin huur” fiddle. Another pastor provides the high-pitched overtones while yet another man sings the low “growly” notes.
All nations, Praise the Lord!
All peoples, Exalt Him!
For His loving mercy towards us is great
And His truth lasts forever
Praise the Lord!
